Areas of Expertise

Eating Disorders

What we call "eating disorders" always happen for a reason. Healing from an eating disorder can be approached in many ways, and in many areas of your life.  I can provide an important part of this process: personalized therapy that can help you understand why food or body image has become problematic for you. When we work together, you can learn new ways to live that can help you feel more connected.  I can help you understand how relationships - with your therapist, with yourself, and with other people - can help you move away from the eating disorder and toward the life you want.

When appropriate, I work thoughtfully with other members of your treatment team, making sure you receive the care you need in all areas of your life and recovery.

Trauma and Grief

Experiencing trauma and grief are part of being human.  How we are cared for when we face trauma can make a huge difference in how we make sense of it, feel through it, and move forward in our lives.  No one should have to deal with trauma and grief alone, and working with a therapist can help guide you through this process.

Therapeutic Use of Music

Music is a universal language.  It can reach us in profound ways, and help us to feel grounded, connected, and understood.  I have been studying and experiencing the therapeutic value of music for many years, and I often use music themed interventions in my work. In 2017, at UCLA's center for arts and healing, I learned about some of the most innovative uses of sound and music in psychotherapy that I am excited to incorporate into my work.

I'm also offer a 12 week interactive process group that uses music and rhythm in a therapeutic way.  The group is informed by trainings from UCLA and in therapeutic drum circle facilitation.  It also relies on my fifteen years of experience teaching music lessons, and the knowledge and experience of how helpful music has been in my own life for grounding, growth, and healing.
